The Sunshine Project
Metaphor is a way of seeing, a way of knowing, a way of being. Metaphor weaves through experience and relationship. It is evocative. It can be nostalgic. It deepens understanding. Metaphor engages possibility, opens hearts and minds, invites multiple perspectives. Metaphor connects. It can live deep within our souls. We use metaphor to teach and we use metaphor to learn. In my life, metaphor is a center.
This project is about exploring the role of metaphor in my life and in the lives of others. It is about finding ways for people to reconnect to, express, and be sunshine.
To begin my inquiry I want to narrow the scope by focusing on what I know. I want to take the lid off my metaphor and examine it through my experiences and relationships. Where does the metaphor come from? How has it affected my life? What does sunshine in a jar look like? What does it represent? Who have I witnessed embodying this metaphor? How have I embodied the metaphor? When is my metaphor most significant? How has sunshine in a jar become a way of seeing, being, and knowing for me? What are the transformative effects of living with a metaphor? Why has this metaphor connected so deeply for me?
This project is about taking the lid off the jars we carry around in our hearts. It is about collecting positive examples of transformation. It is about spreading sunshine.
Introduction from “Taking the Lid Off Metaphor: Sunshine in a Jar” by Jessica Outram. Final paper for AEC 3177H. December

Hi Jessica,
I heard about your anthology project as a member of CAA (canadian authors association). I think is it great!!
I tried submitting a short story, but I haven’t been successful with your email address. Have you perhaps changed something?
Hope to hear from you soon,
All the best,
Dana
